Characterization and Management of Viral Diseases of Papaya

The book has been divided conveniently into chapters dealing with survey, diagnosis, characterization and management of the viruses infecting papaya (Carica papaya L.). A detailed outline of the viral diseases of papaya is given for ready reference. Described the various types of symptoms appearing on papaya due to virus(es) infection. Besides, this book describes the transmission, dilution end point, thermal inactivation point, longevity in-vitro, isolation and purification of the virus, serological and molecular characterization, electron microscopy. Methodologies of DAC-ELISA, RT-PCR for detection of papaya ring spot virus (PRSV) were also described. This book deals with the eco-friendly management of the viral diseases of papaya though antiviral agents of plant origin. Role of Boerhaavia diffusa and Clerodendron aculeatum against viral diseases have been described. Identification of sources of resistance is mentioned in this book. I feel that this book would be most useful for researchers, scientists, teachers and students engaged in the area of plant virology.

Dr. Shyam Singh obtained first class degree of M. Sc. (Ag.) in Plant Pathology and Ph. D. in Plant Pathology from NDUA&T, Faizabad, U.P., India. Presently, he is working as Assistant Plant Pathologist at C.C.R.I., C.R.S., Chikmagalur, Karnataka, India. He has published 14 research papers, 2 manuals, three book chapters and 2 popular articles.
