The species Maytenus guianensis is a medium-sized tree endemic to the Amazon rainforest, known as: (chichuá, xixuá, chuchahuasi, chucchu huashu, chuchuasi, and chuchasha). Its roots and stem are used in traditional medicine for their supposed analgesic, muscle relaxant, healing, insecticide, immunosuppressant, anti-inflammatory, antiulcerogenic, antirheumatic, antidiarrheal, antibacterial, antifungal, anthelmintic, antiprotozoal, antitumor, aphrodisiac, and gynecological, demonstrating great ethnopharmacological potential to be explored. This book demonstrates the antigenotoxic effects of the species in tests conducted with plant and animal models.

Professor at the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), he holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Lutheran University Center of Ji-Paraná (CEULJI/ULBRA) (2007), a Master's degree in Genetics and Applied Toxicology from the Lutheran University of Brazil - ULBRA (2011), and a PhD in Experimental Biology from the Federal University of Rondônia UNIR (2015).
