Church Initiatives for Peace in Uganda and Sudan

This book evolved from a study undertaken to make an evaluation of the nature, impact, and outcome of the role the Church has playedand initiatives taken in resolving conflicts in Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan. It also examines the Church, government, and rebel movements as organizations and as institutions and their relationship to each other and to the conflicts. The role the Church has played in resolving conflicts has always been significantly unique and has had different ramifications in different societies since its inception. This book is also about the Church''s role as peace seekers and makers in very complex conflicts in two regions that are uniquely similar in their peoples and yet different in their political history. The Uganda Government has vainly tried to make peace with a skeptical Joseph Kony''s LRA. While Southern Sudanese'' SPLA/M made a peace deal with the Sudanese Government to last six years and lead to a referendum for self-determination for Southerners. In both regions, the Church has been involved at various levels to finding peace through various initiatives. Addressing the root causes to these conflicts is key to resolving them.

Edward Jada until recently was a ceasefire Monitor in Sri Lanka for the Norwegian Government, and a mediator at the Conflict Council in Kristiansand, Norway. He has M.Sc in Public Policy and Management. He studied Pol. Science at Catholic University of Nijmegen, Netherlands, now taking a M.Sc. in Dev't. Mangt. at University of Agder, Norway.
