Cinematic Identification

The pages that follow detail the author's experience of coming to terms with a traumatic car accident whilst in high school. It forms the written accompaniment to a narrative film, which draws on this experience as the basis of its plot. The subject matter is intensely subjective and autobiographical. The author uses a cinematic framework from which to examine spectator identification with onscreen characters. She draws on a variety of psychological theories from trauma studies, self psychology to investigations into attachment theory and creativity.

Autorentext

Rowena Aldous has a Masters in Film and Television from the University of Cape Town. She is also an associate member of the South African Guild of Editors (SAGE). Her films have been screened at numerous festivals around the world. This thesis forms the written component to her Masters Dissertation which included a 20-minute narrative film.
