Cisplatin ototoxicity: self-defence and otoprotection

Ototoxicity or Ototoxicosis refers to the loss of auditory and/or vestibular function caused by damage to the cells of the structures of the inner ear caused by chemical substances (medication or other industrialized products). This loss of function may be partial or total, symmetrical or not, temporary or permanent, depending on the chemical composition of the substance, the dose, the time of exposure and the route of administration, besides the individual genetic characteristic.
