Civic engagement in the era of social media
Details
Internet censorship stands as a controversial practice that reshapes the relation between power holders and the citizens. The phenomenon deserves to be treated not only from the side of implementers, but also from the perspectives of Internet users. As a cultural, social, commercial and economic global communication system, Internet has been one of the essential domains where censorship is exercised. The consequence of heated debates on regulation of Internet was the emergence of a perceptual polarization among citizens on Internet censorship practices: While a group of Internet users support free Internet, others demand for a more controlled online experience. This book aims to address this polarization within the context of Turkey's society and their experience with the Internet and its services.
