The goal of the IUPAC system is to give each chemical structure a unique and definite name, and to correlate each name with a unique and definite chemical structure. This book introduces a systematic classification and provides an overview of the rules as well as step-by-step guide for IUPAC naming of organic compounds. The book is designed to provide a comprehensive coverage in the area of classification and methodical nomenclature of organic compounds for a chemistry student. At the end of this book IUPAC name of some typical organic compounds are mentioned to test and develop the knowledge through direct application.

Dr. Bishwajit Saikia earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Natural Products Chemistry Division, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Assam, under Dibrugarh University, Assam, INDIA. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University, Assam. His research interests in total synthesis of bioactive natural products.
