Clay-Handicrafts of West Bengal

Clay has been regarded as the primeval plastic materials which are readily available, easily tractable and amenable. Pottery in West Bengal was found to be one of the earliest inventions in the field of crafts-by-humans. West Bengal is very much rich in the clay-based handicrafts which include clay dolls, clay models, ceramics, terracotta, clay idols and clay images etc. But now the art is facing some problems regarding financial assistance, Market/selling, Training, Raw material, Infrastructure, Information, Packaging & Transportation and Working Space. The present book is basically a list of annotated information sources on the clay-based handicrafts of West Bengal. This book is a peer reviewed publication as it is based on the Doctoral thesis of the author under Jadavpur University. This book will be very much useful to the craftsmen, planner, trainers, trading houses, teachers, students, and researchers to locate the information sources with the help of annotation of the sources and thereby find the required information to develop the handicraft products and to solve the problems associated with this industry.

Dr. Sibsankar Jana is currently working as Asst Prof, Dept of Lib & Inf Sc, University of Kalyani. He has passed MLIS from Jadavpur University (JU) in 2001 and received Gold Medal. Later he has completed PG Diploma in Digital Lib Management from JU. He had passed M.Sc (Geology) from the University of Calcutta. He has good number of publications.
