CLEFT LIP AND PALATE

Clefts affecting the lip and palate are a relatively common developmental anomaly in many human populations. Children with cleft anomalies may experience a multitude of physical and developmental challenges. There may also be psychosocial and emotional concerns for the patients and their families.A facially deformed patient experiences the most severe form of handicap in a society that is subconsciously biased by assumptions & perceptions of beauty. It significantly affects an individual's personality leading to deep emotional & psychological trauma due to social stigma.This booklet intends to provide a clearer understanding of this congenital anomaly for parents and patients to guide them on how and when to consult which specialist so that ideal treatment can be availed, inflicting minimum burden on the child and parents.
