Cleft care and cleft research have been of interest to mankind for long. The multiple aspects and concerns of this group of patients mean that, although a considerable amount of work has been done within the field, the remaining; questions regarding this complex malformation are numerous.Particularly, unilateral cleft lip and palate is one of the most common birth defects that needs long rehabilitation between birth and adulthood.Cleft care should be provided by a multidisciplinary team of specialists. Members of the team should have special training in cleft care and the team should agree on the stages of treatment including the examination, record collection and general protocols.
