CMV Infection among Pregnant Women
Details
Human cytomegalovirus ( HCMV ) is one of the major causes of congenital infections. Its clinical manifestations range from asymptomatic form to severe fetal damage and, in rare cases, death due to abortion. Furthermore, 10% to 15% of the children who are asymptomatic at birth may develop late sequelae, especially hearing defects. The major aim of the study is to investigate the seroprevalence of CMV among pregnant women at Omdurman Maternity Hospital,Khartoum, Sudan and to study the possible major risk factors predisposing to CMV infection. The book can be a benchmark for health professionals, policy makers, health research institutions etc. to carry out further studies in a wider scope in Sudan and will be an input to other developing countries to conduct similar studies.
