The Lodgepole Needleminer (Coleotechnites milleri) is a moth of the Gelechiidae family. It is found in the western parts of the United States, as well as Canada. The larvae feed on Pinus contorta and is considered one of the most destructive defoliators of Lodgepole pine forests. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are crepuscular and diurnal species.
