College for Creative Studies (CCS) is a art education institution in the United States and was cited by BusinessWeek as one of the 60 best design schools in the world. It is a private, fully accredited, four-year college located in Detroit, Michigan. CCS is credited with having one of the world s most recognized programs in transportation design and for placing possibly more graduates in automotive design than any other school. The school is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD), a consortium of thirty-six leading art schools in the United States. The college had its origin in 1906 with the formation of the Society of Arts and Crafts. In 1926, the society became one of the first Arts and Crafts organizations in America to offer an educational program in the arts. In 1962, when the Michigan Department of Education authorized the granting of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design, the school officially became a college
