Collegiality and Contemporary Liturgical Reform
Details
The third edition of the Roman Missal is a hotly debated change in the Catholic liturgy. Most Catholics believe the translation only effects the day to day prayer of the Church, but they are sorely mistaken. The new English Roman Missal, and the process that was behind it's promulgation, signify a great shift in the implementation of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council. In Collegiality and Contemporary Liturgical Reform, Mark Bartholet follows the debates surrounding collegiality and liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council and examines how those debates have continued into the 21st century. With the new Roman Missal as a culminating effort, he displays how liturgical reform has been used by the traditionalist forces in the church to undermine the groundbreaking development of Lumen Gentium allowing for collegial governance of the Church. Liturgical reform, as you will discover, has done more than just re-translate the Mass; it has been used to move the Church back into a pre-Vatican II model of governance.
