Combating Trafficking in Women

Human Trafficking is the new-age slavery. With an estimated profit of more than seven billion US-Dollars a year it is one of the most profitable organized crimes. Victims are mostly girls and young women. By explaining the general terms and conditions, even the reader that is not familiar with the topic can access and understand the problem easily. The main purpose was to create an over-all book of references regarding (legal) measures taken by the European Union and its programs from the first time it dealt with the issue in 1996 until 2008 for experts, thereby also providing newcomers with a possibility to get an insight into the problem. Furthermore, this book is explaining the phenomenon with a feministic as well as legal approach, probably by raising more questions than answered....

Nicole Brigitte Maier studied Law at the University of Salzburg, Austria, and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, NL. Specialized on the protection of human rights and international criminal law she enrolled for the PHD Program at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna in 2009.
