Communication and coordination in crisis management
Details
In the last decades, the world has been confronted with more and more crises while some of them became transboundary in nature, affecting multiple countries or even continents. These unique events test the limits of governing systems and endanger the lives of the citizens. Those in command have the responsibility to safeguard or at least minimize the impacts of the crisis, however, sometimes the public has unreal expectations of what can be achieved in certain situations. The book concentrates on the two crucial elements of crisis management, communication and coordination, and their requirements for effective crisis response. The differences and similarities found between cases, external factors and their outcomes should help citizens reach a more informed view on how a crisis can be managed. Moreover, the analysis should raise awareness for those in charge of the importance of crisis preparedness and possibly act as a model for improvements in crisis response teams.
