Community gardening in Bratislava

This book analyses the actual situation of community gardens in Bratislava based on four case studies. The main goal is to study the importance of community gardens for the urban life, the design principles of the plots and social structure of the gardening communities. The citizens need to act, socialize with others, relax, learn and transform their surroundings. The community gardening seems to offer all this aspects in combination with subsistent food production that can be considered as the basic human right. Beside this it can contribute to the development of local communities and neighbourhoods. My aim is to define community garden as a specific type of open space that should be supported by the official authorities and involved into the urban planning in post-socialist cities as Bratislava.

Ivan Petro is great lover of nature and gardening. His main focus is on permaculture and landscape planning with the involvement of natural processes. He is also interested in community gardening. In 2017, he completed his training as a landscape architect at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna.
