An investigation into the use of the garment in contemporary art. This investigation looks at the garment as a signifier of the absent wearer and as a means of exploring the transience and dichotomies of identities. Focusing on the work of three artist, Caroline Broadhead, Jana Sterbak and Lucy Brown, this book explores how artists are using the garment to explore the dichotomies of presence and absence, escape and containment and public and private.

Helen Walsh is an artist and creative practitioner based in Cumbria, England. Working predominantly with drawing and textiles Helen is fascinated by dichotomies and shadows and seeks to create beautiful and enticing work that on closer inspection often reveals a more sinister or alternative interpretation.
