Details

The book provides an evidence-based and thorough review of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), a worldwide important viral disease that affects swine production. PRRS is caused by Betaarterivirus europensis (PRRSV-1) and Betaarterivirus americense (PRRSV-2) and causes significant economic losses by causing reproductive failure, respiratory distress, and predisposing to secondary infections. The book brings together existing knowledge in the field of virology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, therapeutics, prevention, economic consequences, and future research trends, which is a critical resource in the development of PRRS control. PRRS is one of the biggest problems in the field of veterinary science and swine industry because of its mutation rate, low efficiency of vaccines, and high economic cost. This book fills in existing knowledge gaps by synthesizing the latest developments in molecular pathogenesis, new diagnostics and new therapeutic approaches. It will help direct researchers, veterinarians, and policymakers in the establishment of effective strategies to alleviate the impact of PRRS, which will help in global food security and animal health.
