Conflict Management

This book is an attempt to explore the concepts of conflict, conflict management/resolution and third party intervention in ethnic conflict in Darfur. The issues covered here range from the analysis of conflict in Africa, their causes and consequences, peacekeeping, historical development of the Darfur conflict, political, economic and ecological dimension of the Darfur conflict as well as the impact and the international community response to the Darfur conflict. Other issues discussed include; the replacement of the defunct Organization of African Unity (O.A.U) with the more proactive African Union (A.U), the structures and functions of the A.U, the A.U Constitutive Act and peacekeeping mandate, the A.U strategies of conflict management/resolution, its role in the Darfur conflict, its strengths and weaknesses as well as its challenges and prospects were all ascertained. This book is a refreshing insight on travails of conflict management in the Darfur volatile region and a valuable material for students, scholars, activists and advocates of peaceful resolution of conflict in Africa and Darfur in particular.
