Syphilis is an infectious disease that has been around for centuries. Despite scientific knowledge about its prevention and treatment, the number of cases of the disease has increased in previously unscathed populations. Migration flows between countries with unequal economies may contribute to the resurgence of syphilis in developed countries. The end result of population exchange may lead to an unfavorable outcome for the child population, a country's greatest health promise.
