Constructed Wetlands for High Strength Wastewater Treatment and Nutrient Removal

The book provides a detailed review of meat processing industry effluent characteristics and current treatment technologies, COD removal using SSF-CW, processes and models on the fate of nitrogen and phosphorus in SSF-CW system. Further, it discusses experiments on a SSF-CW system planted with Monto vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) for treatement of high strength COD and high nutrient effluent, phosphorus adsorption dynamics of gravel media.
Current design equation of horizontal flow SSF-CW system is mostly plug flow exponential decay method, but this book discusses the application of retarded first order rate constant as for horizontal flow SSF-CW system for COD removal. The book also covers application of SSF-CW technology for nitrification and denitrification processes.
