Contemporary Romanian Artists

The book Contemporary Romanian Artists. Journalistic Insights is about art as a means to communicate meanings shared by the members of a community or of a culture at the end of the 20th century and beginning of the new millennium. First, there is a look into the changes that affected the cultural production and consumption practices in the digital era. It is about the interactive art and relational aesthetics, the emergence of a new production and consumption model, and cultural differences between the works of Western and East European artists, reflecting the transition from communism to post-communism and democracy. The book also reveals the interpretation and signification strategies used for understanding and creating meaning for a number of works of art by Romanian artists, while considering the stylistic diversity of their artistic works, The book presents exquisite examples of poetic interpretations made by writers for paintings, and examples of visual texts reflecting the process of understanding and graphically interpreting a literary text. Beyond the surface of the commented works and events, one can distinguish the constants defining the spirit of the era.

Elena Abrudan is a Professor of Visual Culture at Babe -Boyai University Cluj-Napoca. She has published books demonstrating specialization in literary criticism and art journalism. She is a cultural journalist and publishes essays, literary and art commentaries, interviews with writers and artists in the local and national cultural press.
