Details

Clothes are designed traditionally to respond to the physical and psychological demands of the wearer and their surroundings. As we progress into the 21st century the cities we live in are changing as they continue to develop in an effort to adapt to the changing needs of our culture. This has an affect on the needs and wants of those living this lifestyle. In this study I will be looking at how our lifestyle is changing what we need and want from clothing. Key questions that will be addressed are; what is the current state of our western society and our lifestyle, how this is affecting our wants and needs from clothing, what materials are available to provide these needs, and how are designers responding to this new clientele of "urban nomads". Case studies will be used to explore these designers and their work. Taking a pragmatic approach these studies will inquire as to how practical and successfully this has been done.
