Contextual Reinterpretation of Religious Tenets
Details
Religious values and concepts play a dominant role in every society as they deal with realities affecting their lives. Religions teach about ultimate claims on believers lives and provide a core vision for it which influences their socio-cultural aspirations and activities. In the context of the plurality of religions, growing perceptions of truth claims, manipulation for extremist purposes and political gains, religion has lost its true essence. This book attempts to explore and assess the relevance of the reinterpretation of religious tenets by Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Swami Vivekananda, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Sri Satya Sai Baba, and Sankaradeva and their movements during the Renascent and Contemporary India. It is analysed from the perspective of religion as a liberative agent and addressed that their religious reinterpretation challenges towards an authentic spirituality which is both contextual and liberative- liberation from all oppressive forces and provides vision towards building a new community.
