Control of green aphids on three tomato varieties

Tomato is a crop of capital importance given its major role in food, unfortunately it is prone to attacks of diseases and pests. It is in this perspective the present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of garlic and chilli extracts on green aphids of tomato on 3 varieties namely: local variety, Roma variety and Money- market variety. A split-plot trial was set up with three varieties and two pesticides compared to the control treatment. Thus, the experimental design contained nine plots per block making a total of 27 plots for three replications. The results revealed that the bio-pesticides caused a mortality rate of 98.54% and 99.6% respectively for the chilli extract and the garlic extract. Observations on yield in t/ha indicate that P1 and P2 resulted in high yields compared to P0 for all three varieties. The treated plots had yields of 53.2 t/ha for P1 and 53.7 t/ha for P2, while the control plots had a yield of 13.8 t/ha.

Patrick HABAKARAMO, nacido en Idjwi, en Kivu del Sur (RDC), en 1984, es licenciado en Biología desde 2008. En 2017, obtuvo un máster en Ciencias Agronómicas en la Universidad de Parakou (Benín) con la máxima distinción. Desde marzo de 2010 imparte clases en la Universidad y trabaja como investigador en el Observatorio Vulcanológico del GOma.
