In process industries, the control of the nonlinear process is one of the essential issues, which exhibits nonlinear behaviour. The nonlinear system is used in various sectors namely chemical, petroleum, water treatment, pharmaceutical, food processing and construction etc. In these industries, it is important to control the essential process parameters like liquid level, heating element temperature, and flow between the tanks. Failing to do so, may lead to a breakdown or emergency shutdown of the plant process. Therefore it is essential to maintain the parameters of the tank at a particular set point. Controlling the process parameters in these nonlinear tanks is really a challenging task, due to their non-linearity and constantly varying cross-section. The nonlinear tank or system taken up for the study is a conical tank due to the nonlinear behaviour.
