Controlled and Random Traffic:
Details
The timing for tillage operation may be assessed through the investigation of soil moisture content in which the soil is not too wet that increasing the risk for soil degradation nor too dry that the energy required is too high. As soil moisture content is greatly influenced by the precipitation, climate change issue has been an important matter in agricultural area. Related to this, it is highly important to know the ranges of moisture content where the soil is suitable for tillage and traffic without causing structural damage and allowing minimum energy requirement. Controlled traffic farming is believed to be able to minimize soil degradation. The scenarios and methodology are developed. There are eight scenarios developed, based on the differences on soil types, tillage systems, and precipitation. The methodology for assessing the workable days is outlined in terms of workability, trafficability and the maximum precipitation during the day. The soil moisture content over the seasons is simulated using SWAP model. The changes on soil moisture content are treated based on the changes in saturated hydraulic conductivity.
