Controversies in Periodontics
Details
The way of periodontal concept is indeed advanced how it had been in the past. We now have a better understanding of the etiological factors associated with periodontitis, the mechanism involved in periodontal wound healing and inter relationship between patient's factors (such as smoking and diabetes) and treatment outcomes. However, some controversies related to periodontology do exist. The reason of controversy on a particular topic may be related to inadequate knowledge of the etiological factors, technical difficulties, and patient related factors affecting the treatment outcomes or some unknown factors. When a thing ceases to be a matter of controversy, it ceases to be a matter of interest. This dissertation aims to explain in detail the unanswered questions in periodontology and it serves also to show that in controversy, one often ends up where one started. It also demystifies periodontal diseases and developing targeted interventions as the current challenge of periodontist is to disentangle the controversies existing in periodontal diseases and its treatment.
