Corporeal Aesthetics in the Work of Louise Bourgeois
Details
This book examines how scholars have approached the idea of the body and aesthetics in relation to Bourgeois's work. It is a discussion of the driving force behind the development, internal spaces, and metaphoric imagery in Louise Bourgeois's oeuvre. As a woman artist, a mother, and as a daughter, Louise Bourgeois has produced important, personal, political, and relevant works that address her personal necessity as well as universal concerns. Many of Bourgeois's critics have seen her work as being deeply personal and retrospective in temper; it seems that the more important issue is to recognize it as being provocative in nature. This work attempts to address Bourgeois's oeuvre through a close engagement with a select number of her works with a focus on her autobiography as well as the female spaces in her work, which are heavily shaped by her relationship with her parents.
