Details

The present study Correlation of Clinical and Autopsy findings of Cranio-cerebral Injuries Sustained in Road Traffic Accidents was a retrospective and prospective study of 65 cases of head trauma(admitted to Neurosurgery department of J S S Medical College and Hospital, Mysore, who died while on treatment) on whom postmortem examination was performed in the department of Forensic Medicine, J S S Medical College. 1.Incidence of males was high (90.7%) than that of females (9.3%). 2.The head injuries were observed more after the age of 20 years. 3.Majority of fractures (44 cases) were fissured fracture, indicating blunt injury to the head.In this study, C T scan could detect 43.9% of skull fractures. But in case of intracranial haemorrhages and brain lesions, the C T scan could detect up to 75% and 95% of cases respectively. This suggests that C T scan is a very useful investigation in head injury cases to detect the intracranial haemorrhage, brain lesions, and to some extent skull fractures. C T scan if done early can guide the treating doctors in management of the patients.
