Corruption in Madagascar from 2003 to 2018
Details
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), each year more than $1 trillion is paid in bribes worldwide. That's nearly 2% of global GDP.And this is only one aspect of corruption. Embezzlement of public funds is estimated at nearly $2.6 trillion, or more than 5% of global GDP.The scale of the phenomenon is such that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has made it one of its priorities in the fight against organized crime. In general, corruption refers to any form of use of power for personal personal gain. Thus, anyone who has some decision-making power and uses it to subvert a process in exchange for monetary or other benefit is practicing corruption. However, there is no universal or comprehensive definition of corruption because the notion of corruption is shaped by the surrounding political, historical and cultural context. The definition of what constitutes a form of corruption thus varies in different parts of the world and over time.
