Cosmogonic myths of indigenous peoples in Ecuador

Mitos cosmogónicos de los pueblos indígenas en Ecuador, by Ileana Almeida, is an invitation to return to the origin of the original cultures that still exist in the country's territory. The methodology underlying the analysis of the text is based on the thinking of the widely recognized Russian semioticians of the Moscow and Tartu schools: Golosovker, Lotman, Ivanov, Meletinski, among others. Myth is a poetic narrative of various dimensions: aesthetic, ethical, hermeneutic, intercultural. It is not only included in the logic of the concrete, it also interpellates the abstract, the affective and the magical and is considered as a theory of knowledge. Nowadays, the subject of myth is deeply attracting the interest of readers from all continents and is lovingly preserved by the indigenous people themselves.

Ileana Almeida Vélez hat einen Master-Abschluss in Philologie. Sie war Universitätsdozentin und Forscherin an der Zentraluniversität von Ecuador. Sie ist Autorin mehrerer Bücher, Essays und Artikel über die indigene Frage in Ecuador und anderen lateinamerikanischen Ländern. Derzeit ist sie Redakteurin bei der Zeitung El Comercio und den Zeitschriften Línea de Fuego und Rebelión.
