Counselor Role in Darussalam Islamic Boarding School Gontor Indonesia

School counselors play a very significant role in conducting guidance and counseling programs. Guidance involves a total program of the process of education, thus the aim of guidance is congruent with the aim of education that is transformation of knowledge and skills and inculcation of moral values from one generation to another generation. Guidance services may vary from one country to another based on the needs in the growth and development of the students. Nevertheless, the commonly accepted roles of school counselors are personal guidance, educational guidance, and vocational guidance. The main purpose of this study is to identify the roles that the school counselor should play in counseling programs in Pondok Modern Darussalam, Gontor, Indonesia. An Attempts has also been made to explore students' views toward the counselor's role. The findings of the study indicate that the school counselor should play his or her role, as suggested by the students, as much as possible because the school counselor is the most suitable person to conduct guidance and counseling programs and should maintain the students' favorable views toward him or her as well.
