Creation Vacation

John Wesley emphasized direct, one-on-one contact with peoplewho live in poverty as a key component of vital discipleship. Thechurch seeks to be faithful in this regard with renewed initiativeto create community with children and the poor. Creation Vacationcamps are the response of local congregations, working through Campand Retreat Ministries. Creation Vacation is based on a generaltruth--that people don't care about, or care for, what they don'tknow--or, to state it positively -- If people living in urbanpoverty housing are to know and care for the glory of God'screation, they need a respite from stress, positive outdoorexperiences, and supported opportunities for re-creation -- whatmany of us call a vacation: in this case, a Creation Vacation. Ifpeople of our middle class churches are to know how to invite andreceive persons in their community who are poor, they need positiveexperiences that connect them as friends to such people: FamilyFriends at Creation Vacation. People are empowered and transformedby their experiences together at Creation Vacation camps--andthrough them, we seek to transform churches and communities.
