Details

This work aimed at analyzing the extent of provision of agricultural credit to farmers, the gaps and strategies to meet the credit requirement among rice growers in Rwanda. Accessing to agricultural loans has been remained a challenge for farmers in the country due to requirements and conditions that smallholder farmers critically fail to fulfill. In sampled area, informal institutions remain major source of credit for small farmers. However, both formal and informal institutions can offer short term credit and collateral security is major challenge for credit seekers in the area. Such empirical evidence is for policy relevance if agriculture is to be major source of income in rural area and in economic priorities in Rwanda.
