Cries and Whispers

Critical and emergency situations permeate all sectors of the hospital; however they mostly occur in the Emergency Room and in the Intensive Care Units. Such settings are marked by severe physical and emotional pain; all sorts of limitations; unforeseeable events; death and loss experiences. These experiences generate such distress that surpasses the restraints threshold of the actors in this play patients, family members and the health team therefore creating the need for a psychological intervention. The psychological consultation-liaison is a kind of intervention that allows considering the institutional demand and the psychological counseling to patients and their family members. This book invites you to know five reports of psychological consultation-liaison in the medical emergency units, since the intervention in patients and professionals involved in the case. Staff psychologist at the Hospital das Clínicas (FMUSP), promotes assistance, teaching and research activities at the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Units. Besides conducting private practice in her office, she also teaches at Universidade Paulista.
