The book shows how the study of the evolving discourse employed during a political process spanning more than a decade can provide insights for critical discourse analysis, on the one hand, and understanding of a real world political process on the other, thereby demonstrating the potential role for critical discourse analysis in historiography.

The present volume is by far the most comprehensive and insightful amongst the very few attempts . The volume is of great value . it stands out for its methodological contribution . this volume is well beyond the Hong Kong case study as it will serve as an informative reference for future studies in other identities more generally and holds practical appeal to researchers and students in the fields of discourse analysis, historiography and identity construction. (Boyang Su, Discourse Studies, Vol. 23 (6), 2021)

'...fascinating and insightful. It is a critical linguistic historiography that should be of interest to anyone who wants to know more of HK's past and present.' - Li Wei, University of London, UK, Applied Linguistics
