Critical Practice in Context

This book contains four essays in literary theory and criticism. The first essay discusses the context of reading African novels as post-structuralist and psychoanalytical texts. The second essay offers arguments on the inferiority complex and complex of hegemony as argued by Frantz Fanon and Edward Said. The third essay examines the manifestation of slavery and freedom in a narrative by Fredrick Douglas, a former American salve and anti-slavery icon. The last essay analyses Malcom X's autobiography and discusses how the agenda of anti-white ideology in advanced through literary ways. The main thrust behind the four essays is the critical practice in the academy. Thus, the book offers insights in understanding theory in context of criticism and the manifestation of literature elements.

Ben de Souza es actualmente candidato al doctorado en el Departamento de Educación de la Universidad de Rhodes, en Sudáfrica. Es licenciado en educación por la Universidad de Malawi y tiene un máster en educación por la Universidad de Rhodes. Sus intereses de investigación se centran en la inclusión, la legislación sobre discapacidad, las políticas públicas, la formación del profesorado y el desarrollo sostenible.
