This Book examines pathways to achieving sustainable agriculture in South Asia, focusing on crop-livestock integration as a holistic agricultural model. It highlights the detrimental effects of monoculture, including soil degradation, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity, while showcasing the benefits of crop-livestock systems such as improved soil fertility, diversified income streams, and reduced reliance on chemical inputs. Case studies from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan provide practical insights into the effectiveness of this integrated approach. However, persistent challenges remain, such as knowledge gaps, land tenure complexities, and limited market access. The Book underscores the need for comprehensive policy reforms, advocating targeted subsidies, capacity-building programs, and strengthened regulatory frameworks to facilitate the transition towards sustainable agricultural practices in South Asia.
