Cryogenic Treatment for Valve Steel Materials

The service failures of engineering components have always been a challenge to the materials engineer.The focal point of this report is to investigate the influence of the cryogenic treatment on the En 52 and 21-4N valve steels.The effects of cryogenic treatment on the wear resistance and other crucial properties of valve steels are investigated and reported. Grey-Taguchi technique is adopted to obtain the best cryogenic treatment process to get optimum enhancement in the mechanical properties of the En 52 and 21-4N valve steel. The mechanisms underlying the cryogenic treatment are investigated by conducting the characterization study and reported.
