Hundreds of movies are translated everyday and translators worldwide need to cope with the problem of making the audience understand not only the text itself, but also the context. 'Cultural Equivalence in Polish and German Dubbing' presents two approaches to dealing with cultural expressions, which belong to the most troublesome phrases to translate. Anna Päczy ska is a PhD student in the Department of Pragmatics at the University of ód . Her master s thesis was on the cultural side of multimedia translation and during her doctoral studies she decided to concentrate on social aspects of language. Currently she is working on issues connected with language and gender.
