Culture, Ideology and Hegemony in Literature

The present book, CULTURE, IDEOLOGY AND HEGEMONY IN LITERATURE: VOICES OF POSTCOLONIAL WRITERS: BEN OKRI aims at making an in-depth exploration, analysis, interpretation, explanation, evaluation and critical appreciation of the theme of culture, ideology and hegemony as reflected in postcolonial literature with special reference to the fictional corpus of Ben Okri, such as Flowers and Shadows (1980), The Famished Road (1991), Songs of Enchantment (1993;), Dangerous Love (1996), Infinite Riches (1998) and Starbook (2007). The fictional world of cultural hegemony as presented by Ben Okri is a world of millennial vision based on harmonious, interdependent, mutual interrelationship. Development of ideologies and cultures should be designed for national and international bridging as well as for the progress of the minority groups, women, subalterns, the oppressed, and the downtrodden, and the overall masses unto this last in particular.
