Micro organisms have been used as tools in industries for the production of many useful products for people. Production of antibiotics and other medicines have been the greatest boon to humans and other animals. For isolation, screening, characterization and optimization of useful microbes, for better output, one must use the supporting media whenever and wherever required. There are several media are formulated and used for culture and maintenance of microbes.The substance which allows growing the microbes on it and supports the growth of microbes in the laboratory is called a medium and the microbes growing on it called cultures. Culture media is designed in form of solid and liquid media to support and enhance the growth of microbes. Media compositions can be modified based on the requirements and to check the parameters, for optimization work. Knowing the correct media for isolation and characterization saves our time but to bring novelty, we can modify the compositions in some extent.
