Customary Marriage In Zambia

The dynamics of customary marriage set up in a country which has more than 73 Ethnic groupings is not only fascinating but, is also challenging to regulate. The pressure created on customary marriage in the light of continuous social changes and inter-marriages can no longer be ignored. However, the cultural practices and norms without being written as law create both negative and positive impact on the rights and duties of parties involved under customary marriage which gives rise to a number of disputes. This book therefore can be used as a reference on the need to harmonise some key cultural values to help balance the advantages and disadvantages of cutomary marriages cutting across all ethnic groupings. The analysis should encourage more research on family law by students and other researchers. The book may also be useful to traditional adjudicators, marriage counsellors, social groups and individulas involved in resolving matrimonial cases .The book also makes an interesting reading about various aspects of the Zambian Culture to any one wanting to have a camera view of how different marriage ceremonies are conducted in Zambia.
