Though India ranks as the world's largest milk producer, the per capita milk consumption is one of the lowest in the world. Sound milk procurement is important for millions of small milk producers and hundreds of dairy plants. Milk cooperatives link both the milk producers and the dairy plants. The research system in livestock sector is a conglomeration of institutions (public, cooperative and non-government sectors). It is not possible for these institutions to critically analyze the knowledge acquired and practices adopted by the individual DCS member. It is worthwhile to analyze the present day livestock development programme in the light of various components of advanced dairy production technology. This book is written on the concept, approach, scope, and methodology of "dairy entrepreneurship and cooperative societies in rural India". The book besides providing an insight into the specific road blocks impeding the smooth functioning of dairy cooperatives is of utmost practical utility for decision makers, planners, administrators and union personnel in dairy cooperatives.

Dr. Navab Singh is Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Dholur (SKNAU, Jobner), also served as Scientist (Agricultural Extension) at MPUAT Udaipur and AU Kota, obtained his B.Sc. Ag. (Hons.) from MDS University, Ajmer and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Extension Education from MPUAT, Udaipur. He has been honoured by the ISEE as Best KVK Scientist Award.
