DALIT Contemporary Concerns
Details
The first part of the book mainly concentrates on Dalits in the context of Indian secularism, social justice and human rights. It also includes Dalit feminism. The Second part presents Dalit movement in Andhra Pradesh prior to 2014. The roots for social, economic and cultural marginalization of Dalits are in Hinduism. Dalits are kept in ignorance about their suppression and exclusion by the society intentionally by the so called Indian leaders both in the pre and post independent period. Now the fight is for Dalit identity, rights and social justice, which were denied deliberately for centuries. Dalits live in the world of abnormality as they are never allowed to experience the democratic values, though India claims to be a democracy. The main stream society consistently tries to prove Dalits as meritless. Dalit women are the worst exploited beings in the Indian society. Dalit movement that started with the slogan of self respect is now aiming at political power. The Brahmanic society wantonly curbs the Dalit progress even in the twenty first century. The main argument of the book is that purposely and consciously Dalits are excluded from contributing for the national development.
