Dance therapy for people with mental illness
Details
Everyone has their own unique story, and there are certain life circumstances, traumas or injuries, whether psychological or physical, that can cause body image and body schema disorders. People suffering from mental illness are particularly affected by this. As part of my training as a dance and expression therapist, I completed an internship in a nursing home for people with chronic mental illness, and I would like to summarise the experiences I gained there in 'Accepting a person as a whole'. This summary forms the basis of my work today: Rediscovering, reawakening curiosity, experiencing the body with all its possibilities, moving away from dissociation and towards individuation. In the search for our own personal expression, we discover the self and learn what attachment, connection and boundaries mean. We experience ourselves holistically in the dance between body, mind and soul. Every day, we learn an incredible amount from each other and experience so much together.
