In astrophysics and cosmology, dark fluid is a theory which attempts to combine the currently separate theories of dark matter and dark energy.Dark matter is the widely-accepted theory postulated to explain the discontinuity between the amount of observable mass in the universe, with the amount needed to explain observed gravitational phenomenon.Based on observational measures of how strong gravity is in galaxies, we are only able to see approximately 10% of the matter in the universe. The 'missing' 90% is called "Dark Matter." Dark Matter is widely believed to be a form of matter that only interacts gravitationally, preventing its direct observation via electromagnetic forces. Simulations of dark matter have been very successful at explaining large scale structures in the universe, including galaxy formation.Dark energy is the postulated source of the observed accelerating expansion of the universe.[citation needed] Dark energy, whether in the form of a scalar field or a cosmological constant, drives a repulsive force that acts in opposition to gravity.
