Selma Hajrlahovic was born in San Jose, California, to Bosnian parents. Having spent a third of her childhood in the States, her family went to Austria when she was eleven. She has been interested in books and film from a very young age, spending many library visits taking out Junie B. Jones books and watching science-fiction movies. Her favorite authors include Stephen King, Christopher Paolini, Cassandra Clare, and Deborah Harkness. She is a student at the University of Salzburg.
